Rubio denies intelligence-sharing pause; Zelenskyy says it resumed
Source published: Oct 18, 2026 · 9:57 AM EDT · Event: 2026-10-18
Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that the United States paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine, directly contradicting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's account. Reuters reported that Zelenskyy told NBC's Meet the Press the channel had been blocked for a period and later restored. Rubio told reporters in Samarkand that there had been no pause. President Donald Trump had also said earlier in the week that Washington was still sharing intelligence.
Response / context
The two governments are giving incompatible accounts, and the Ledger did not identify evidence that independently resolves whether all intelligence sharing continued without interruption. Reuters quoted Rubio questioning Zelenskyy's statement and saying there had been no pause. Zelenskyy said the channel had been interrupted and later restored; AP separately reported October 13 that he said Ukraine received no partner warning before five Russian ballistic-missile strikes. Rubio's remarks and Zelenskyy's NBC comments are attributed to Reuters because primary State Department and NBC transcripts were not identified as accessible during this review. Rubio's denial is an official response, not an independently adjudicated finding about the system's operation or scope.
