Contractor records challenge administration's Reflecting Pool explanation
Reuters reports that Atlantic Industrial Coatings told the administration that errors in its work and flaws in the repair plan caused the renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool liner to peel and break loose. Reuters says the roughly $14.7 million renovation was fast-tracked before July Fourth; Trump had repeatedly blamed vandalism.
Response / context
The White House defended the renovation as common-sense restoration. The Interior Department maintained that vandalism also damaged the pool and said the contractor must make repairs. Atlantic did not immediately respond to Reuters. The Justice Department had moved in July to dismiss the vandalism case against David Hearn after acknowledging flawed contractor work. This is a contractor and agency-accountability report, not a finding that Trump personally caused the defective work.
